Why I built CampGenie

Hi, I'm Steph, the founder of CampGenie. In 2024, barely two weeks into owning our first caravan, my husband and I set off on a lap of Australia with a 4-month-old and a 2-year-old in tow. We had no idea what we were doing. Every stop raised the same questions: would this place suit our setup, work for two small kids, and be worth the precious little time we had? Answering them meant hours lost to guidebooks, forums, endless map pins, and checking countless websites for availability. We came home and kept camping and found the same problem waiting for us on ordinary weekends near Sydney, just at a smaller scale.

After years leading product and technology teams in big corporates, I took a break to build the thing I wished had existed on that trip. CampGenie makes trip planning effortless, for a weekend away as much as for the big one.

Frequently asked questions

Is it only for Australia?

Yes, for now. CampGenie is built for camping and caravanning trips around Australia.

How accurate are the AI suggestions?

CampGenie uses AI to suggest stops, then checks each one against live Google Maps listings so you only see real places, with current ratings and reviews. AI can still get things wrong, so always check details like amenities, road conditions, closures and site suitability with the campsite before you go.

Can I check availability and book through CampGenie?

Not directly yet. Each stop links through to whoever takes the booking, such as the national park or caravan park, so you can check availability and book with them.

Do I need an account?

No. You can start planning straight away. Sign in if you want to save your trips and come back to them later.

Is there an app?

Not yet, but you don’t need one. Just go to campgenie.ai on your phone or laptop and start planning.

What does CampGenie cost?

It’s free to use. CampGenie is still in its early days, so things may change as it grows, but we’ll always let you know first. When you’re ready to book, you pay the campsite directly.
